Webb12 nov. 2008 · Lately what I've been doing to remove them. I have 6" long steel wedges. I stack them the opposite way between the top of the pitman arm just under the steering box.Next to the shaft. Hit the shaft with some PB blaster. Than hit the wedges with a hammer. As the wedges come together they force the pitman arm off. Done about 8 … Webb21 dec. 2010 · So the idler arm is now stuck on the centre drag link (which is fine because i am replacing both). Now i am up to the very last part to remove: centre drag link from the pitman arm. I even removed my longtube stainless exhaust headers to have more room to play with. I just cannot fit my ball joint seperator into this part.

Webb2 aug. 2016 · You'll need a lot of heat, a lot of lube, a heavy duty puller or two, a giant wrench or socket, a hammer, and time. I tried and failed. Most people end up having to cut the pitman arm almost to the splines of the steering gear and hit it with a hammer and chisel. The new one goes on in the reverse. You'll probably need an adjustable wrench to remove the nut from the pitman arm,it's bigger than most wrench sets. Separate it from the drag link first.
